Is Alki Lawn Service a ContactLess Service? What is Alki Lawn Service?

Yes! We are a contactless service! Alki Lawn Service mows and maintains your yard while keeping our CDC-recommended social distancing and not interacting directly with you. We bill your credit card on file (see below,) or if you choose to pay with cash, we will pickup the cash after you leave it on your porch and step back inside while we keep our distance.

Alki Lawn Service are a state-licensed and commercially-insured lawn care company located in West Seattle. We are locally owned and operated. We are your neighbors! Steve & Sally live a few blocks from the Alki Point Lighthouse. Our service provides lawn mowing, trimming, and sidewalk blowing services.

Who are Alki Lawn Service?

We are Steve & Sally, the couple behind the company, Mind Wedgie LLC. We operate as Alki Lawn Service which is our registered dba ("doing business as") or trade name. Sally helps with the office-related stuff. Steve loves client interactions and handling Alki Lawn Service's day-to-day operations.

What is that totally rad-looking vehicle Alki Lawn Service are driving around West Seattle?

Our Alki Lawn Service company vehicle is affectionately named, "RB" or "Arby." That's her in the header photo above. RB is a customized RadBurro by Seattle's own, Rad Power Bicycles. Arby is our healthy and environmentally-friendly combination of zero-carbon-emissions and minimal noise pollution. She helps Steve pedal-up the Admiral Way hill above Alki. Arby keeps Steve healthy. She's beneficial for our planet, and Arby's low-overhead helps keep Alki Lawn Service very affordable for our valued clients.

What Services Do Alki Lawn Service Provide?

Alki Lawn Service provide the following:
  • Lawn Mowing - At a service fee depending on your home's lot size and lawn coverage
  • Lawn Trimming/Edging (included with mowing above)
  • Weeding & Flower Bed Maintenance (Hourly Rate) - as scheduling allows, light maintenance reserved for our existing, season-long mowing clients
  • Sweeping/Blowing of Sidewalks - always included with our mowing service

Why Is Alki Lawn Service All-Natural?

That's an easy answer:  Steve loves bumble bees, pollinators, and all things natural. He understands the negative impact of neonicotinoid-treated flowers and plants on bees and earthworms...that it's short-sighted to spray a weed with a typical herbicidal chemical instead of reaching down with a screwdriver and digging it out...that applying the most commonly used slug and snail baits are dangerous to house pets and are killing the surrounding soil.

Those rich nutrients in the form of cut grass are typically hauled away by traditional landscaping services. In contrast, Alki Lawn Service's commercial-grade mulching-mower returns those tiny, nutritious bits of cut green-grass back into your lawn as its weekly dose of natural organic nutrients. It's a healthy Nitrogen-laden, green-grass, organic smoothie for your lawn. Yummy!

Is Alki Lawn Service's "Zero Carbon-Neutral" Claim Kind of Gimmicky?

No, it's not gimmicky! Alki Lawn Service is not a company who claims to be "solar powered...electric, or earth-friendly" who then shows up curbside in a fossil-fuel burning pickup truck to mow your lawn! Alki Lawn Service's claim of zero fossil-fuels extends to both our company vehicle and all of our lawn care equipment. Our daily operations are carbon-neutral. It's not a gimmick. We call that integrity. 😃

Alki Lawn Service's original company vehicle was a bicycle with a trailer
At first, Alki Lawn Service employed only a pedal-powered bicycle with a trailer for our company vehicle. Our upgraded, electric power-assisted rig, named Arby, allowed us to expand our service area up the hill to the North Admiral and other adjacent West Seattle neighborhoods above Alki. We are committed to using ZERO fossil-fuels in our business operations!

Does Alki Lawn Service Have Time or Service Duration Contracts?

Alki Lawn Service does not utilize time-commitment contracts. Our one-page service agreement may be cancelled at any time, for any or no reason, by yourself or Alki Lawn Service before the day of scheduled service. Our service agreement:  authorizes Alki Lawn Service to charge your credit card on file; outlines our service; explains our cancellation policy; and notes your service fee. We enjoy serving and keeping happy clients whose loyalty to Alki Lawn Service is earned by our hard work and value.

What Are Your Cancellation, Schedule-Changes, and Rescheduling Policies?

Your service agreement with Alki Lawn Service has no time-duration commitment and may be cancelled by either party. You may cancel your service agreement by texting or calling our phone and leaving a voicemail. If you cancel or reschedule an already scheduled service visit less than 24-hours in advance of the scheduled visit, you agree that Alki Lawn Service may elect to charge your credit card-on-file for the service visit fee as originally scheduled.

Do You Accept Credit Cards? How Do I know My Transaction is Secure?

Alki Lawn Service accepts cash and Visa, MasterCard, and Discover credit cards. Your credit card on-file is billed at the time of each service visit. (Sorry, no Amex/American Express accepted at this time.) We use Wave and Wave Payments as our credit card payments processor. Wave is an online financial and accounting SAAS owned by H&R Block. Wave Payments utilize 256-bit TLS encryption, the standard encryption utilized by the online banking industry. Wave Payments is a PCI Level-1 Service Provider which is the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS.)

Are You a Closed-Practice? Are You Currently Accepting New Customers?

Alki Lawn Service is accepting new customers on a first-come basis! Hopefully soon, we expect to have a closed-practice. By this, we mean that we will service a maximum number of lawn care clients which will allow us to provide an optimal mix of quality, value, and personalized service while working a fairly normal seasonal workweek. When we reach that optimal capacity, we will wait-list potential new clients.

What Do You Mean By "Low Cost of Overhead and Affordability?"

Alki Lawn Service operates with a very efficient business model. By design, we use zero fossil-fuels for our operations and company vehicle. Our very concentrated hyper-local neighborhood service area means we have very efficient daily travel to serve our client-base.

We should add, that we do not plan to advertise in the traditional sense. Word-of-mouth, Steve's direct efforts, and referrals are how we spread the word about our service. If you like our work, we appreciate you sharing about Alki Lawn Service with your neighbors and nearby friends.

About Steve and Sally

Steve and Sally have lived in the Alki neighborhood of West Seattle for over ten years. Steve has always enjoyed working outdoors and taking care of lawns and gardens. Sally prefers the behind-the-scenes action of the business and can be found doing the books when not at her 8-5 job.

Steve is the family MBA behind Alki Lawn Care. He enjoys the day-to-day operations and interactions with people. From the age of eleven, Steve was doing seasonal and yard work for many of his childhood, morning paper route customers. These mentors were like surrogate grandparents who nurtured him and shared their knowledge and love of all-things garden and lawn care.

Steve did similar work in high school and during his self-supported, work-through-college years. For a time, he was a reforesting contractor planting pine trees in the hills of the central North Carolina piedmont.

More recently, Steve has focused on our yard. You may have talked with him out front while he built our surrounding 8-foot tall fence and trellis? This is very likely if you’re walking a dog! Maybe Steve has said, "hello" while working in our front beds of red and white clover for his beloved bumble bees. Steve has created a beautiful lawn and yard. A variety of garden beds and elevations with native plants provide for the year-round benefit of our birds and pollinators.

With his gardening and lawn care background, a joy for serving people, and his passion for being outdoors, Alki Lawn Service is a natural fit for Steve. He cares about quality. You will experience the same quality, attention-to-detail, and care in the work Steve completes for you.
